Rheumatic diseases are not a single disorder, but refer to various inflammatory or degenerative conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system.

These diseases are mainly characterized by inflammation and pain of joints, bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments and muscles and might lead to disability at some point. Rheumatic diseases affect all ages and both genders, although women are more frequently affected than men.
